What is Coaching?

Coaching is a way to get the tools, skills, insights and perspective that you need to create a plan of action to feel confident in your ability to weather the monthly storms brought on by PMDD.

My coaching is informed not only by my personal experience with PMDD but years of experience as a licensed marriage and family therapist supporting women who experience the symptoms and experiences associated with PMDD. My coaching is also highly influenced by my focus in Attachment Theory based counseling, which highlights the importance of our relationships and connections as imperative to our healing and ability to overcome adversity… ultimately, I have the personal AND professional training to support you and get you on track to where you want to be and how you want to feel.

What is the Difference Between Coaching and Psychotherapy?

In addition to being a coach, I am also a licensed marriage and family therapist in California with training and experience in treating and diagnosing mental health struggles. As a coach I will not be diagnosing your PMDD but I have the knowledge and experience to direct you to the appropriate diagnosing professional, as well as the resources and tools to manage the symptoms associated with it.

While there are some similarities between coaching and psychotherapy, they are very different events and it is important to understand the differences between them. Both coaching and psychotherapy utilize knowledge of human behavior, motivation and behavioral change, and interactive counseling techniques.  The major differences are in the objectives, goals, and focus.

The focus of coaching is development and implementation of strategies to reach client-identified goals of enhanced performance and personal satisfaction. The primary foci of psychotherapy are identification, often diagnosis, and treatment of mental and nervous disorders. Coaching orients around the present and future, while psychotherapy often dives into the past and wounds that underlie presenting mental health symptoms.

How Long Is A Session?

As we enter into our work together we will outline session length and frequency specific to our work together. This may be adjusted as our work goes on and needs change.

I often suggest weekly sessions until goals are met or longer intensives, as needed.

90-minute sessions, every other week, and extended intensive sessions are for those who are willing to dive deep, and get work done.

We will have frequent check ins about how you feel the level of support is meeting your needs and make adjust collaboratively as we move through your journey.

Is What I share Confidential?

The laws concerning confidentiality are very clear: What you choose to share with a coach is confidential as long as the coach does not suspect certain dangerous conditions.  When clients share information about child abuse, elder abuse, suicidal intention, homicidal intention or if the client is gravely disabled and cannot care for themselves the law states that as a mandated reporter we are required to report the situation to the proper authorities.

All else we discuss is completely private and will only be shared to others per your request and consent. I am a collaborative coach, which means if there is anyone else in your life, medical professional or personal relationship, that I could connect with to help them be the best support for you and collaborate with them in your treatment journey, I am fully on board. You will sign appropriate forms to ensure all communication is what you desire it to be.
